While the A2O trail build focus has now moved from the Duntroon to Oamaru section to the Aviemore to Kurow section, there is still some last tidying up to be done on the lower section. Plans to reopen the Tapui tunnel and link via the trail on the old line have failed and for now the the route will remain on Cants Road for the short section up to Peaks Road.
The A2O Trail will now build approximately 2.6kms along side Peak Road before it drops down to the Rakis tunnel and rejoins the trail on the original line. This section up on Peaks Road has great vistas and is the highpoint of the trail on this day. The new trail out of Duntroon is now receiving rave reviews as it links through to Prydes Gully Road via the spectacular Elephant Rocks and the nearby limestone outcrops.
