We recommend that you start your cycle journey in the historic gold mining town of Ross. The trail starts at the Heritage Centre on Aylmer Street, and if you haven’t already sipped into the the pace of life on the West Coast, then Ross is the ideal place to start.

The town abounds with heritage sites and beautiful walks through the old gold workings so don’t be in a hurry to climb on your bike and take off.

A must-do, the Ross Goldfields Information & Heritage Centre has beautiful park like grounds with picnic tables to relax. The museum has a replica of New Zealand’s largest gold nugget “The Hon Roddy”

Gold Panning

Pan for gold at The Heritage Information Centre. They have undercover gold panning where you are guaranteed to find gold! Or hire a gold pan and take a 10 minute walk to Jones’s Creek to try your luck.
